Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars ~ Review & Giveaway

For the past several weeks, the kids and I have been using this unit study book about the constellations and Bible prophecy in our homeschool classroom. (And by "classroom" I mean anywhere we decide to do school.)

Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars is like nothing I have ever seen before. The author, Dawnita Fogleman, has done a great job at making this study fun and informative which makes it perfect for my young and older students alike.

What it is:

Rather than starting at the beginning of the book, I went straight for the middle to Gemini. Why? Because I actually have twins myself and I thought it would be cool for my daughter (who is fascinated by the stars) to learn more about this constellation first.

One of the first things we did was to make a "circle star finder". I didn't have any transparency sheets for my laser printer, so I actually rolled out a sheet from my laminator and cut it to fit my printer. In order for the toner not to rub off, I covered the printed side with clear packing tape before cutting it out and putting it together (easy peasy!). We have actually not had a chance to use it yet, because we've had so many rainy nights and bed ridden sickies. Looking forward to clearer skies and healthy children so we can try it out!

The study of Bible prophecy has never been something we have really delved into before, so this study has taken us awhile to ease into. For now, we have mainly focused on the scripture related to this constellation, looking at the placement of the stars on the star charts, and researching with sources other than the book.

Some of the things I love most about this study:
  • Unless otherwise stated, all verses are from the KJV Bible
  • Can be used with all ages
  • Can be used in a scrapbooking, notebooking, or lapbooking format. The possibilities are endless!
  • Dawnita gives a heads-up about anything inappropriate that might come up when googling.
  • She has included references and suggestions for continued study (online, print, and DVD).
The references alone are priceless! Just out of curiosity, I did several different searches, and only ran across one Bible-based viewpoint website. The time and heart that Dawnita has put into this book is obvious. I look forward to continuing our studies and learning more about God's beautiful masterpiece!

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
