Knot Genie Review

categories: , ,

When I first received the Knot Genie to review, I had full intentions of using it on this:

But, Baby C had other ideas and after a few strokes of the brush would have nothing to do with it coming any where near her head. This could have a lot to do with the fact that she is only 2 and won't even tolerate having barrettes put in her hair. She just hates to have her hair messed with. I was very disappointed that I couldn't try the Knot Genie out on her, because her hair seriously needs help!

Luckily, I had somebody much more willing to test the Knot Genie out on -my 14 year old, Anna! She has very long  & healthy hair, and it usually takes her quite some time to comb out after washing it. Split ends and damaged hair is also a big concern for her because it is so long. She's never had any chemical treatments whatsoever, and she rarely even blow-dries it.

The magic of the brush has to do with the different lengths of the teeth. They bend just right during brushing which allows easy detangling of hair strands. Since there is less stress on the hair, the cuticle remains unharmed which leads to very smooth, shiny, and healthy looking hair!

The Knot Genie's one-of-a-kind cloud shaped designs allows for quick, easy use for right or left-handers and fits right in the palm of your hand. The results? Gorgeous!

The tangled mess on the left-hand side of the picture is before brushing with the Knot Genie. The beautiful smooth hair on the right side is after using it. Such a big difference!

Read Tips on using the Knot Genie to achieve the best results or visit their website to purchase your own! They now carry the "Teeny Genie" detangling brush, perfect for small hands. The Knot Genie brush retails for $19.99 and comes in the following colors: Fairy Pink, Puff of Purple, Blue Cloud, Tinseltown Silver and Camo Cloud. The Teeny Genie retails for $14.99 and is available in Fairy Pink, Puff of Purple, and Blue.

PlasmaCar Review

There is a store in our area called Coolest Toys On Earth. We've gone in a couple of times and looked around so I know that they definitely have some fascinating & awesomely cool toys to offer. They are, however, missing what just might be *the* coolest toy on earth -the PlasmaCar!

The PlasmaCar is a one-of-a kind, award winning ride-on toy perfect for almost any age. Made from high-quality, durable plastics, it can support weights of up to 220lbs on a flat, smooth surface and can reach speeds of up to 6 m.p.h.! It's a breeze to assemble, simple to operate, uses neither pedals NOR gears, and doesn't require batteries. All you have to do is turn the steering wheel back and forth and off it goes.Tell me that's not cool!

From this....
to this is less than 10 minutes!

See it in action!

Not the best video and Mr. B was going a bit uphill, but he got the hang of it rather quickly and had a blast riding it. He rides it every chance he gets and most days can be found riding it around the table in our dining room. The PlasmaCar is not recommended for use on laminate or hardwood flooring, as the wheels may damage some surfaces but since we have commercial grade tile in our dining room & kitchen, this is not a concern for us.

My older children enjoyed riding the PlasmaCar as well! Here is a picture of my son (12 y.o.) and daughter (14 y.o.) taking a turn during our visit to a local park near us.

The PlasmaCar is so easy to steer and ride, than my son could even do it with a broken wrist in a cast!

The PlasmaCar we received was red, but it comes in several other vibrant colors such as yellow, blue, purple, and pink. To purchase, find a retailer near you. The PlasmaCar is warranted against manufacturer defects for 6 months from date of purchase. If needed, replacement parts may also be available for purchase, which is nice to know in case somewhere down the line our PlasmaCar would need maintenance. This would surprise me though, because this is one of the most durable and well-made riding toys that I've seen in a long time. While actual purchase prices may vary, Retail Price is $70 and, in my opinion, worth every penny!

Sold on 5 continents and in 50 countries, the PlasmaCar is a toy that's around to stay! Visit too see for yourself how this can easily be the COOLEST TOY ON EARTH! You can also find them on FACEBOOKTWITTER, and YouTube

The makers of PlasmaCar have also introduced PlasmaBike, a balance bike for 18 months and up. For more information, please contact them at

This is truly a toy that grows with your child and we look forward to many more years of fun with our PlasmaCar!

Facebook Has Changed Your Default Email Address on Your Account! Did You Even Notice? Here's How to Change it Back!

Facebook makes A LOT of changes. Most of them I really have not liked (at all), but I tolerate them because I am receiving a FREE service from them and figure that I don't deserve much say in the matter. But, when they change my profile information without my knowledge, that really bothers me.

I have no idea when they changed things, but I just noticed today that my default profile email address was one of Facebook's choosing ( and my other email was set to "hidden".

If you want to change your email address back, this is what you need to do:

On your timeline, click "About" on the left-hand side.

Scroll down to "Contact" info and click on "Edit".

Click on the circle (on the right-hand side) to hide your address from your timeline and then click on the circle to the right of your chosen default email address so that it is changed to "shown on timeline".

Make sure to scroll down and "Save" your changes!

I can't help but wonder what they will change next......

Loving My #CoppertoneWaterMoms Products!

This is the awesome Coppertone Water Moms welcome kit that I received! I've really enjoyed using the products on my little ones, as well as sharing the samples that I was given!

FINALLY! A day without rain, so we decided to go to the park. Mr. B (who insisted on wearing the above mismatched outfit), is getting ready to get covered by Coppertone!

I love the easy application and total coverage provided by Coppertone Water Babies Delicate Foaming Lotion with SPF 75+

Don't forget to use sunscreen! Check your region's Local UV Index daily so you can protect your family from the sun's harmful rays and then click HERE for some Suncare 101.

SodaStream Review

Until I received a SodaStream for review, I never understood what all the buzz was about. Now I know, and I wonder why I never tried one sooner! What's so great about it, you might ask? Well, I'll tell you!

For starters, the SodaStream is an "active green" product which means each time you make sparkling water or soda at home, using your own tap water, you are actively reducing your CO2 footprint. By using your own carbonation system, there is less packaging waste from cans and bottles and less pollution caused from transporting the bottled beverages. One SodaStream carbonator makes between 60 and 110 liters (depending on the size) which is the equivalent of 170 to 310 aluminum cans. Once the canister is empty, it can be exchanged for a refilled canister locally or ordered online.

The SodaStream is very easy to assemble and use. One thing I learned the hard way though, is that when adding the syrup, the bottle of carbonated water must be tilted slightly while slowly pouring the syrup in or it will fizz and overflow all over the place. Of course, it did mention this fact in the directions (that I did read) but I somehow overlooked this important bit of information in the excitement of using it for the first time.

IXL Review

What is IXL is a comprehensive, interactive, math practice site for Pre-K through Algebra, that allows teachers and parents to monitor the progress of their students. All of IXL's practice skills are aligned with Common Core and State Standards which will help prepare your student for standardized testing or just give them the extra help they need to grasp and retain a concept. Courses for Advanced Math and Language Arts are also currently in the works.
There is so much content on this website that I feel like it would take literally months to thoroughly review. It is honestly one of the most comprehensive sites that I have ever seen which explains why it is currently used in over 150 countries!
As a member of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I received a family subscription for up to 3 children which I used for 2 of my pre-k students and my daughter who is in 6th grade.

I used both Pre-K and Kindergarten practice lessons with my 4 year old. Some of the Pre-K lessons were way too easy for him (such as counting to 3, 5, and 10) but were perfect for my daughter who is 2 years old and can count up to 11 objects. I appreciate having the option to access skills for all grade levels rather than just one set grade level for each student.

The skills are easy to navigate and are organized into categories. To start practicing, you click on any link. If you hover your mouse over a skill, it shows a sample question.
My son enjoyed the Positions skill the most while my daughter enjoyed counting the dots but I look forward to working with them on other skills as well.

I know it has been awhile since I've been in school, and having "unschooled" for the past several years I haven't really kept up with our state standards, but I was a bit surprised at some of the Kindergarten skills such as Time, Counting Money, and Number Lines. These are skills I remember starting to learn in 1st grade, and they took me awhile to grasp. I think the features of IXL will make it easier for my students to pick up these skills and to build on them. The website is colorful, the graphics are wonderful, and the option to have the question read aloud (pre-k to 1st) totally fascinated my son.

Some of the great things about

When a student answer a question incorrectly, he has the option to have the problem explained to him.

This is something that is helpful for ALL grade levels and as a parent teacher, I am grateful for the explanations for the higher level skills especially! My daughter who is doing 6th grade math has an easier time understanding the process when she can see it in front of her, rather than being told how to do it and why.

The Reports are a very useful tool as they inform you how many minutes your student practiced, what skills were practiced, trouble spots, awards, and more. This can be access on the website by signing in as the "parent" and the report is also sent via email.

There are over 2,000 skills from Pre-K to Algebra with an unlimited number of computer-generated problems to challenge your student.

If you are interested in learning more about the "Left Brain, Right Brain" approach of IXL, visit them online for more information, call them at 1-855-255-8800, or send an email to

Pricing Information:

Monthly membership to IXL is $9.95 per month or $79 per year. Each additional child is $2 per month or $20 per year. If you are a teacher, and would like to use IXL in the classroom, click HERE for more information.

Bottom line:
While this is not the "best" program I have ever used, it comes close. It is VERY comprehensive, has the extra bells & whistles in the way of reports, and allows my children to have access to skills that challenge them no matter what their grade level. It is a very impressive program!

#Creation Illustrated Review

Until reviewing Creation Illustrated, I had never heard of the publication. All I can say is, I sure have been missing out on a good thing. I was blessed with 4 issues of this nature journal to review: Spring 2012, Summer 2011, Fall 2011, and Winter 2012.

Creation Illustrated is published quarterly by a non-profit, non-denominational ministry "dedicated to the eternal impact of sharing biblical truth through the blessings of God's creation." The editors & publishers are Christian couple Tom and Jennifer Ish, who homeschooled their daughter Melissa (who is also part of the publishing team).
Their Mission Statement:
"Our purpose is to share the wonders of God's creation. By revealing fresh insights of His infinite wisdom, gentle touch, undeniable justice, redeeming love, and flawless design, pure truth shall bring renewed peace. Each part of this publication is offered as a reprieve from the daily rigors of life so that all can look to the future with unbridled gratitude and hope."

About the publication:

Each issue of Creation Illustrated has 3 sections: nature, Scripture, and living. The glossy pages and bright, vibrant photography make it worthy of gracing any coffee table. Even the advertising is vivid with color and eye catching! The way this entire publication comes together is, in my opinion, truly a work of art. If you live within the U.S., see for yourself with a FREE TRIAL ISSUE ($4.99 retail value).

We love hummingbirds! My littlest ones, who are 2 and 4, will  sit with me and watch them gather at a feeder I have right outside my bedroom window. We've watched them for hours at a time because they amaze us so. I'm not the greatest photographer and my camera leaves much to be desired, but I have managed to snap a few interesting shots of these fascinating little birds. I think I probably squealed a little with delight when I discovered the "Flying Jewels" spread by Albert Russel in the Spring 2012 issue. Did you know that while in a dive, hummingbirds can accelerate their wing beat to around 200 times PER SECOND !?! I absolutely love having scripture, nature with a creation science point of view, and breath taking photographs all wrapped up into one. I couldn't ask for any more.

Some of the upcoming features for the Summer 2012 Edition include:

Outdoor Adventure - Family Cycling Trip in British Columbia, Canada
Creation Up Close - Trees of Righteousness
Lens on Creation - Least Tern Colony in Biloxi and Gulfport, MS with Bobby Harrison
Creativity in the Garden - Herb Garden
Genesis Cuisine - Cherry Recipes
My Walk with God/Gardening - Big Red: the Horse that Revealed God's Love
Children's Story - Destined to be a Duck
Creation Week - Day 7 on the Creation of Rest & Worship

There is a Toasted Hazelnut Cheese Rounds recipe in the Winter 2012 issue that I have my eye on and cannot wait to try out and I have a feeling that the upcoming recipes in the Summer 2012 issue will be a hit as well!

Isn't this absolutely gorgeous?

If you were to ask me to tell you my favorite features of Creation Illustrated, I would honestly say "the front and back covers and everything in between." Yes, it is THAT good!

If you would like to subscribe to Creation Illustrated, you have several options: 1 year (4 issues) - $19.95, 2 years (8 issues) - $37.95, or 3 years (12 issues) - $53.95.
