I love word games, so I was looking forward to receiving the Scruble Cube to review. I had never heard of it before, and if you haven't either, this is what it is: a 3-D word game that is basically a cross between a Rubiks cube and a Scrabble game. If you can spell, you can play!
I was a bit worried when I first took it out of the box, because it seemed a bit unstable, but so far my fears have been unfounded. I still think I'll keep it away from my 3 year old though! Each row turns and the individual letters turn as well. Words can be made across rows, up and down, and continued from one side to another. The point values on each square make it easy to add your total score. Game comes complete with timer and score pad for when you are playing with 2-4 players but one of the beauties of this game, is that you can play it by yourself. The kids can have fun and learn at the same time, which is a wonderful combination.
I found the Scruble Cube Getting Started Guide to be helpful in teaching my children ages 11, 11, and 13 to play. The game came with instructions also, but they were a bit hidden (between the packaging and the box) and I didn't even realize they were there at first so I was glad to have access to the pdf file.
The Scruble Cube is a wonderful addition to our homeschool and I love how it's portable so it can be taken anywhere! If you enjoy word games, you should definitely give this game a spin! It's provided hours of entertainment & learning for my family.
The Scruble Cube can be purchased online for $24.95 plus s/h and is now also available at Toys R' Us, Barnes & Noble, and Meijer!
Free downloads are available for Language Arts & Math worksheets and lesson plans. Their lesson plans are aligned with Common Core Standards.
